OH NO! That Nasty GOP Is Being Mean To The Poor!

This is all over the left wing blogosphere today. Use your favorite search engine and look up “minnesota house file 171”.

War On The Poor: Minnesota Republicans Want To Bust Poor People Who Carry Cash

They're not just crazy, they're evil -- and un-Christian, should they have the audacity to claim otherwise. If only we could force them to live like this, they wouldn't last a week:
St. Paul, MN – Minnesota Republicans are pushing legislation that would make it a crime for people on public assistance to have more $20 in cash in their pockets any given month. This represents a change from their initial proposal, which banned them from having any money at all.
Wow, those nasty Republicans. WTF are they thinking?
Well, they’re probably thinking that the left wing blogosphere needs to learn how to read, because the bill doesn’t say any such thing. Not even close. In fact, I’ll be blunt. There’s no way any person who can actually read could get that interpretation from the bill. This is made up news, clear and simple. And that’s a fact.
Here’s the link. Read it for yourself.
Basically this is a welfare/food stamp type program for the state of Minnesota. The bill proposes that funds sent to the recipient be in the form of a debit card rather than cutting a check or giving cash. The recipient may elect to receive up to $20/month in cash. The debit card can not be used to buy tobacco or alcohol products. There’s nothing in the bill that makes it a crime for the recipient to carry as much cash as they want. There’s also nothing prohibiting them from having another bank account a debit card associated with that and using that debit card at ATM machines to withdraw as much as you want.
Look I understand that the people at Crooks and Liars are opinion journalists, and not reporters. They’re entitled to publish their opinions. They’re not entitled to just make up stuff out of the clear blue sky, which is what Susie Madrak has done here.
If Crooks and Liars were a reputable business, Susie will be fired first thing Monday morning. Of course, you and I both know that’s not going to happen.
More Faux News.

Updated Tourney Odds

Updated after last night’s games. Chances shown are chances to win that particular round. You’ll notice that some teams chances actually shrunk. That’s due to the number of rounds, and the wide variety in quality of teams, and possibly due to some teams winning, yet under performing. After the results, those teams now have a higher chance of a harder road to the championship. This is likely the last round where this will happen.

Duke now has a better than 50/50 chance of making the Final Four.

Just like football, I do basketball projections.

Sorry, this isn’t as pretty as my usual. Didn’t have time. In fact, as some of the games are already over, it’s already out of date. Too bad.  I will add a new post as each round completes.
