This Might Actually Be a Good Thing

I rarely compliment Democrats, so don’t miss this one.

Progressive Senators Introduce Bill To End ‘Ridiculous’ Airline Fees | The Daily Wire

Democratic have lawmakers introduced a bill to end “ridiculous” airline fees.

The Forbidding Airlines from Imposing Ridiculous (FAIR) Fees Act — sponsored by Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA), Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), and Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García (D-IL) — argues that fees for baggage, seating, and cancellation are “not reasonable and proportional to the costs of the services actually provided.”

A press release from Markey’s office explained:

Too often, airlines blindside travelers with exorbitant charges at checkout caused by unexpected fees for basic aviation services. This price gouging has grown exponentially as a business practice over the last decade. In 2019 — the last full year before the coronavirus pandemic disrupted air travel — airlines worldwide collected $109.5 billion in ancillary fee revenue, up nearly fivefold from $22.6 billion in 2010. That same year, U.S. domestic airlines collected $5.8 billion in baggage and $2.8 billion in ticket reservation fees alon

Now let’s be honest with ourselves here, because the Democrats certainly won’t be. I don’t expect this to lower the price of flying by one cent. Airlines aren’t using these “ridiculous” fees to drive up prices. They’re using them to stay profitable. Price wars have set the allowed prices for certain flights to lower than the actual costs. Airlines have to make up these costs somehow, so now they charge extra for things they didn’t use to.

If they stop having these extra fees, the costs will once again be bundled into the ticket costs, and those will all go up.

But at least we won’t be surprised anymore when our $99 flight ends up costing us $300. And that will be a good thing.

So, one cheer for the Democrats.

Yay.

“Reshape Coverage”, in Other Words, ”Lie”

White House Working With Reporters ‘To Reshape Coverage’ Of Economic Woes Under Biden As Approval Sinks: Report | The Daily Wire

CNN’s media newsletter reported:

The White House, not happy with the news media’s coverage of the supply chain and economy, has been working behind the scenes trying to reshape coverage in its favor. Senior White House and admin officials — including NEC Deputy Directors David Kamin and Bharat Ramamurti, along with Ports Envoy John Porcari — have been briefing major newsrooms over the past week, a source tells me.

Some of this is typical. White House administrations always want to shape the message their way, and work with the press to make sure that their message is heard.

This is typically met with a healthy degree of skepticism by the press. Everyone knows the way the game is played, including the press.

But in this case, the press appears more willing than is typical to go along with the White House.

The officials have been discussing with newsrooms trends pertaining to job creation, economic growth, supply chains, and more. The basic argument that has been made: That the country’s economy is in much better shape than it was last year. I’m told the conversations have been productive, with anchors and reporters and producers getting to talk with the officials…

This is different. This isn’t “Hey, you guys are printing the wrong thing. Here’s the truth.” It’s, “Hey, we need you guys to print things this way, so everyone will believe that we’re doing a good job.”

That’s Because Democrats Buy Into the Fear

And will keep doing so as long as there is a Democrat in the White House.

Poll: 80% of Democrat voters afraid of Omicron, only 35% of Republicans are concerned | One America News Network (oann.com)

The poll also found the majority of Republican voters, 59 percent, said they are “not very concerned” or “not concerned” at all about Omicron despite the latest media frenzy.

“Democrat poll numbers are cratering, so the White House is stoking up unscientific fears about emerging variants to justify their unpopular policies,” noted Texas congressman Ronny Jackson. “This is a calculated political decision. Where is the science that’s dictating their heavy-handed response to the Omicron variant?”

The Republican lawmaker asserted that the left is simply using this new variant scare to further push lockdowns, vaccine mandates and other coronavirus restrictions. He insisted that the whole thing is political, not scientific.

See, this completely contradicts Heilemann as I said in my last post.

It’s the left that continues to try to use this virus as a political weapon. What they’re finding out though is that it’s not working nearly as well anymore. And it will continue to be less and less effective. They need to find a new plan.

Does a Bear Poop in the Woods?

Do Democratic Socialists have a Jewish problem? - New York Daily News (nydailynews.com)

Since that time, the Democratic Socialists of America of which AOC is a member have continued to court controversy by, among other things, requesting that City Council candidates pledge not to travel to Israel if elected, refusing to say whether Israel has the right to exist at all, and most recently stating that taking Rep. Jamaal Bowman to task for having traveled to Israel (with a pro-peace Jewish organization that has worked with Bernie Sanders) and meeting with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is “its highest priority right now” in a statement where they also opposed “the ‘normalization’ of relationships between the Israeli government and other governments.”

Taking them at their word, I assume they seek to isolate not only the Israeli government but any government — like, say, Morocco’s — that wants bilateral relations with them. This is apart from occasional individual attacks on AOC, such as a meme that circulated in a WhatsApp group using unprintable racist language to attack her relationship with Jewish individuals.

Thank you, Mr. Obvious. The modern Democratic Party is anti-Semitic at its core. It’s amazing that it’s taken this long for a left-leaning paper to notice, but at least they finally did. The question is, what will this paper do next? Is this the last article you see like this? I suspect that for the time being it is. Maybe you’ll see something in 2023 if the Democrats lose the House & Senate next November. Until then…shhh.

Well, They Should

They’re to blame. So, yeah, they’re gonna get blamed.

Dems fear supply-chain blame – HotAir

Rep. Cindy Axne (D-Iowa), who has introduced a number of bills to address the supply-chain issue, plans to push House leadership to bring more related bills to the floor in the coming weeks, an aide to the congresswoman told Axios.

A bipartisan group of House members, including vulnerable Democratic Reps. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) and Colin Allred (D-Texas), sought to renew the Supply Chain Caucus last week, according to a Craig aide.

Craig said in a statement to Axios: “It’s clear that our reliance on global supply chains have left us unprepared to meet the demand that our economy is currently experiencing.”

Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) filmed a video in her district, home to two GM plants that have closed intermittently because of chip shortages. She said working on legislation to ensure microchips are made in the U.S.

This has the smell of fear. I can’t imagine either of these Democrats putting up such bills if we weren’t in such dire straits and if they didn’t know they were going to be blamed for it.

Still, these ideas have some merit, and if they’re not exactly what I would do, they’re probably the best we can hope for from a Democrat Congress and White House. Can they convince enough others of their party? Time will tell.

Inevitable

House Republicans vow to boot radical Democrats from committees when they take over Congress majority | One America News Network (oann.com)

Probably the only thing they can do at this point. I think the GOP made a strategic error here early on.

When the Democrats booted GOP members from committees, the members should have just shown up anyway, with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA-22) in tow, saying that they didn’t recognize the authority of the Democrats to make such decisions.

That would have caused a floor fight and a determination of the Rules. And it might have gone the GOP’s way with such a slim Democrat majority.

But, for whatever reason, the GOP didn’t fight it this way. So, now they have to escalate. They will kick out members of the Democratic Party in retribution, likely far more than the Democrats have done. The media will be on the side of the Democrats, but will be interesting to see how they attempt to spin it.

Republicans in the House have said they’re ready to fight back against Democrats, suggesting the same treatment the “America First” GOP representatives have received.

According to recent reports, many radical House Democrats are at risk of losing their committee assignments if Republicans take back the majority in the House. This, after Democrats voted to strip GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) and Paul Gosar (Ariz.) from their committee assignments.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) vowed to give back Greene and Gosar’s committee assignments when Republicans retake the majority in 2022.

Certainly many of the Democrats have said and done things that the GOP will be able to attack and criticize in their efforts to remove them. Get ready for an even more partisan House.

She’s Experiencing Karma of Her Own

Illinois Democrat Who Called Wakesha Attack 'Karma' Resigns – PJ Media

She exercised her freedom of speech. She has the right to do so, and should not be fired for it.

But I’m sure she was made to realize what a stupid thing she had done and how it hurt her organization. She was not fired, but she was probably encouraged to resign on her own.

I’m not going to quote any of the article. She said and posted some really vile things. Go read at the link.

This Might Be the Most Ominous Sign of All for Democrats

Republican Blue State Governors Are Most Popular in the Nation – PJ Media

When Republican Governors are exceptionally popular in blue states, it gives them many opportunities to expand the map.

Leading the pack of blue-state Republican chief executives is Vermont’s Phil Scott, who shows a startling 79 percent approval rating. Second is Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker with 72 percent approval followed by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan at 70 percent.

It also hints at a shift in the political spectrum. Again, not good news for the party in charge.

BBB Passes the House and No One Is Surprised

BREAKING: House Passes Massive $1.75 Build Back Better Bill – PJ Media

The vote was close — 220-213  with a lone Democrat, Jared Golden of Maine, voting against the bill, along with all Republicans present.

On to the Senate, where the bill faces major obstacles in the name of Sinema and Manchin. We shall see.

Did He Take Pee Breaks or Sit Down Any?

Ok, I’m being silly about something quite serious.

Longest Floor Speech in History, Rep. McCarthy Condemns BBB – PJ Media

But Democrats did mock him for it. I guess mockery is all they have.

McCarthy didn’t waste his opportunity. For the next 8 1/2 hours, the minority leader made the case and put the Republicans firmly on the record as being united in their opposition to Joe Biden and the Democrats’ plans to try and turn America into something it never was and was never supposed to be.

Fox Business:

McCarthy said Democratic lawmakers were “out of touch” with the needs and wishes of ordinary Americans. Republicans universally oppose the legislation, which they denounce as a fiscally irresponsible initiative that will exacerbate the inflation crisis, damage the long-term economy, and introduce to large a degree of socialism.

“Never in American history has so much been spent at one time,” McCarthy said. “Never in American history will so many taxes be raised and so much borrowing be needed to pay for all this reckless spending.”

In the lead-up to the vote, the Congressional Budget Office released its score for the bill, claiming it would raise the deficit by $367 billion over the next ten years. But the CBO based that score on the ludicrous notion that “reforming” the IRS would bring in a robust $260 billion.

Yeah, that’s gonna happen. And the CBO’s estimates are going to be low. They’re assuming a lot of things that are unlikely to happen, as I’ve discussed many times in the past.

And, I would be remiss if I did not point out the childishness of the Democrats:

Democrats hooted and jeered at McCarthy for most of his speech — just what you’d expect from a bunch of adolescent morons.

Yahoo News:

At one point, he quoted Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., saying Americans didn’t elect Biden to be FDR, to which Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., interrupted and yelled, “I did!”

McCarthy added he could wait for Democrats to stop talking. “Keep going,” Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, yelled back. “No one is listening.”

Send them back to pre-school.

It Is, and It Will

I said I would rarely do polls. I need to get back to keeping that promise.

Or unmake it.

92% Say Inflation Is A Serious Problem; 56% Say Build Back Better Plan Will Make It Worse (scottrasmussen.com)

Discouraging numbers if you’re the party in charge of the Executive and Legislative Branches, and you’re promoting Build Back Better.

Like the OSHS mandate, the Democrats might be better off now if BBB doesn’t pass. Then they can’t be blamed for its failures, and they can blame the Republicans for not allowing their “solution” to pass.

Ninety-two percent (92%) of voters say that inflation is a serious problem these days. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that just 5% disagree and 3% are not sure.

Those totals include 64% who consider inflation to be a Very Serious and 2% who say it is Not at All Serious.

The survey also found that 56% believe the Build Back Better plan being considered by Congress will make things worse by increasing inflation. Just 14% think that legislative plan will help by reducing inflation. Nine percent (9%) don’t think the legislation will have any impact on inflation and 22% are not sure.

Voters are not paying much attention to the Congressional debate on President Biden’s proposal. Just 19% know that the infrastructure bill has passed and the Build Back Better plan hasn’t.

Because of that, polling on the topic is heavily dependent upon how the proposed legislation is described. For the questions on inflation, respondents were told that it would increase both government spending and taxes. Nothing else was added to the question.

Other data shows that voters generally believe that more government spending leads to higher inflation. Fifty-seven percent (57%) see inflation as a tax on the poor. Just 23% disagree.

Also, I need to check on Scott Rasmussen. I seem to recall him being kicked out of his own company, which is why he has this new one, and there being some problems with the reputability of his polling.

But there have been so many pollsters with issues over the last decade or so, it’s just as possible I’m thinking of someone else.

This Is Amazing

First, it’s amazing that President Joe Biden (D-USA) could be above water in any group on the economy. But the difference between white college grads and working class, wow.

Trump’s populism and Biden’s ineptness have caused the working class, once the core of the Democratic Party, to abandon the Democrats in droves.

This Is the Democrat Idea of ”Returning to Normal”

Democrats assured us that getting rid of Trump would allow things to return to normal in Washington (never mind that no one ever asked us if returning to normal was desirable).

Breaking: Steve Bannon Indicted for Contempt of Congress from January 6 Subpoena (lifezette.com)

It is extremely rare for a person to be indicted for resisting a Congressional subpoena.

But not when your name is Steve Bannon and your resisting coming to talk about former President Donald Trump (R-USA).

On November 12th, a federal grand jury indicted former Trump advisor Steve Bannon on charges of contempt of Congress due to Bannon refusing to comply with a subpoena issued by the House committee tasked with investigating in the January 6th incident at the Capitol.

In a press release from the Department of Justice, Bannon was formally charged with two counts of contempt of Congress for his refusal to physically appear and the second count for not handing over requested documentation.

This is a warning shot to others who might resist testifying about the January 6 protests.

This Is a Troublesome Number for Biden

Eleven Senate Dems Call On Biden To Take Action On Soaring Gas Prices | The Daily Wire

Eleven plus fifty Republicans would be a filibuster proof majority. The Republicans could actually force Biden’s hand on this issue.

In the letter, released by Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), the Democrats urge Biden to explore all available options, including banning crude oil exports and opening the National Strategic Petroleum Reserve, to help lower the cost to consumers at the pump. It was also signed by Senators Bob Casey (D-PA), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Ed Markey (D-MA), Tina Smith (D-MN), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Sherrod Brown (D-OH).

“According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline is the highest it has been since 2014, with an increase of more than $1 per gallon since this time last year,” the letter reads. “In our home states, high gasoline prices have placed an undue burden on families and small businesses trying to make ends meet, and have proven especially burdensome as our constituents continue to recover from the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Is this the end? Will they do more then just write a letter?

Stay tuned.

This Matters Because They Used This False Story to Delegitimize and Weaken a President

And it worked too. Without the ongoing drumbeat of “Russia! Russia! Russia!”, Trump may have been re-elected.

I’ll have more on this in the coming days. Power Line Blog has for years called this the worst political scandal in American history. And they may be right.

5 reasons why Democrats should star panicking about 2022 – CNNPolitics

What are his five reasons?

1. Donald Trump isn't the bogeyman he once was
2. The suburbs are back in play.
3. "Wokeness" is a major problem
4. People know who's in charge -- and they don't like what they see.
5. The Republican base is on fire

All true points. We’ll see if all of these still hold true a year from now.

Read the whole thing.

Gee, I Wonder Why

Ambushes of police up 139%, officers blame defund politicians | Washington Examiner

Ambush shootings of police have jumped 139%, and the top police union blames the anti-law enforcement rhetoric liberal politicians have spewed.

The Fraternal Order of Police released new numbers of attacks on men and women in blue, reporting 109 officers have been shot in 86 ambushes. Worse, 281 officers have been shot this year so far and 52 killed by gunfire.

Politicians shouting “Defund the Police” should be made to leave a year without any police protection in the worst neighborhood in their state.

They caused this. If they had any class, they’d all resign in disgrace.

Possibly, but a Lot Can Happen in a Year. Or Three.

Red alert: Crushing defeat in Virginia could signal trouble for Democrats ahead (msn.com)

But in Virginia Tuesday night, the victory in the governor's election was scored not by Democrat Terry McAuliffe – rated the favorite when the race began – but by Republican Glenn Youngkin.

In New Jersey, an even stronger Democratic stronghold, Gov. Phil Murphy narrowly  defeated Republican Jack Ciattarelli in a race not called until Wednesday evening.

The results fortified Republican hopes of winning back control of the House and the Senate in next year's midterms. They complicated President Joe Biden's embattled efforts to push his ambitious agenda through a Congress under Democratic control, albeit narrowly.

I haven’t mentioned New Jersey, a race that was won by the Democrats by the narrowest of margins. It shouldn’t have been close. Neither should have Virginia. Democrats have to be nervous.

But a year ago, they were giddy. A lot can happen in a year. Always in motion is the future.

I make no predictions for 2022 or 2024. Ask me the day after the election and I’ll tell you who won. Maybe. Not before.
