Crunch Time

There are two things you often hear from people seeking office who are behind in the polls.

  1. This is an endurance race, not a sprint.
  2. The only poll that matters is the one on election day.

Well, the first may have been true six months ago, but if you’re not sprinting now, you’re in trouble.

As for the second, that may also be true, but polls this close to election day start to be pretty accurate.

If you’re behind now, you better have some sort of ace up your sleeve to pull this out. If you’re ahead, you better keep doing whatever has worked for you, only do more of it.

For the GOP, the Dems will be trying to pull out anything they think might be an ace. They’re going to use some of the sleaziest ads of all time. We’ve seen that already. They will also flat out lie about policy issues. We’ve seen that too. They’ll resort to scare tactics. Check.

There are only ten days left. I started this countdown at 40 days out, but now it’s crunch time. The next ten days are hugely important. If you haven’t voted with your money yet, do so. If you haven’t voted with your time yet, do so. In ten days vote at the ballot box.

It’s time to give it everything you’ve got. Whether you’re the person running for office or someone supporting him/her. As David Farragut said [paraphrased]:

Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!

Or, if you prefer something more recent than the Civil War, try Lauren Holly:

Listen.
