College Football Week 8

Congratulations to Florida State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Wisconsin, Utah, Alabama and Boise State which all became bowl eligible this week. That brings the number of bowl eligible teams to 14. There are 35 bowls this season, so we’ll need 70 bowl eligible teams.

Condolences to Akron which joins USC (probation) on the bowl ineligibility list. Akron is the first team to make the list based upon win loss record.

Ratings?

Computer top 5:

  1. Oklahoma
  2. Missouri
  3. TCU
  4. Boise State
  5. Oregon

The computer rating is a composite of a “Win”-based rating much like what’s used in the BCS, and a somewhat Margin-Of-Victory (MOV) based rating.

In case you’re interested in the breakdown, here’s Win:

  1. Oklahoma
  2. Missouri
  3. LSU
  4. TCU
  5. Boise State

MLE (maximum likelihood estimates):

  1. Oregon
  2. TCU
  3. Missouri
  4. Stanford
  5. Boise State

As I said would happen, Win and Composite look better this week. You’ll notice that there’s still quite a bit of turnover in the top 5, however. Expect that to continue for at least a couple more weeks.

Oklahoma travels to Missouri this weekend in what the computer thinks is the most important game of the season.

Enjoy!
