Ye Gods, They’re Just as Crazy in the UK

British School Cancels Winston Churchill, Replaces ‘House’ Name With 24-Year-Old Soccer Player | The Daily Wire

Hey Brits, you do know that you’d all be speaking German now if it weren’t for Winston Churchill don’t you?

The names of Winston Churchill, the British prime minister who guided Britain through World War II, and Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling have been axed as school ‘house’ names at one British school in an attempt to promote diversity.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, “Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School in Richmond has renamed houses honouring Britain’s wartime leader and Harry Potter author after footballer Marcus Rashford and nurse Mary Seacole.”

Churchill, who at one point stood nearly alone against the encroachments of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, will be removed, and Rashford, a 24-year-old soccer player for Manchester United will take his place.

Diversity. Well, at least it’s not because he’s no longer welcome. At least that’s what they say. I imagine that it is in fact that. Since Rowling was removed at the same time.

I wish I were famous enough to be canceled. I think I’d like the notoriety of that. And the company.

John Cleese Is Clearly Not a Fan of Cancel Culture

Althouse: "I regret that I did the same on a Monty Python show, so I am blacklisting myself before someone else does."

In case you can’t figure it out (and some of the respondents to this Tweet clearly couldn’t), Cleese is mocking cancel culture here. And he’s canceling himself to make a point of just how stupid it is.

A Glimmer of Hope for Freedom of Speech

Are Americans In Favor of Free Speech? | Power Line (powerlineblog.com)

A new national telephone and online survey by Rasmussen Reports and The National Pulse finds that 72% of American Adults believe cancel culture – a form of censorship that harms the careers and reputations of public figures for doing or saying things that are considered offensive – has gotten out of control. Only 15% disagree, while 12% are not sure.

And the numbers are similar along all ethnic groups.

Hope springs eternal.

No One Is Safe From Cancel Culture

I’d Feel Sympathy for You if You Weren’t One of the People Who Started This

Whoopi Goldberg Torches Cancel Culture - 'The Truth Doesn't Seem To Matter' (themix.net)

The truth hasn’t mattered for Whoopi in years, possibly decades.

“Because there is cancel culture, people will call or text and say, ‘I’m not buying your product. This is who you have talking about your product, me and my 5 million followers, if you keep her, we’re not going to buy your car, or we’re not going to buy your shampoo or we’re not going to buy your toothbrush or we’re not going to buy your Pampers,'” she added.

Most of this comes from Hollywood elites. You want to stop it? Talk to your peers. Don’t talk to me. First, I can’t do anything about it. Second, and perhaps more important, I just don’t trust you.

Normally I’d Say Something Snarky About the Remaining 36%

Poll: 64% Of Americans See ‘Cancel Culture’ As A Threat To Their Freedom | The Daily Wire

But in this case, I find the phrasing significant. I bet at least half of that 36% don’t fell that Cancel Culture is a threat to their freedom. It may be a threat to your freedom, but that doesn’t bother them.

The information comes from a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey released exclusively to The Hill showing that 64% of the respondents to the survey stated “that there is ‘a growing cancel culture’ that is a threat to their freedom, while 36 percent said they did not view it as a threat to their freedom.”

This next bit is true.

Mark Penn, the director of the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey released by The Hill, said, “It is a chilling finding that most people in the country now are afraid they would be fired if they expressed their real views on social media … The public generally gives negative ratings to social media companies and sees the movement as more about censorship rather than trying to correct wrongs. It is growing as a national issue.”

Back when I used social media, I was very expressive on Twitter, but much more reserved on Facebook. I was self-censoring myself. That’s one of the reasons I went back to blogging.

Twitter Makes Up Reasons for Suspending Make Up Artist

Conservative Beauty Guru Amanda Ensing Suspended From Twitter | The Daily Wire

Amanda Hensing received this notice of a DMCA takedown order from Twitter.

The problem is that she’d already deleted the offending tweet.

Ensing told The Daily Wire that the copyright infringement email was odd to her because she claims to have deleted tweets that were more than a year old just a few months ago. “They suspended me for something that doesn’t exist,” Ensing claims.

So, why was she suspended then?

Oh…I see.

The day before her Twitter suspension, Ensing tweeted a meme of Donald Trump at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) that said “Miss Me Yet?” when he was on stage. She also tweeted a link to watch Trump live at CPAC.

Cancel culture is real. And dangerous. And they’re coming for you.

Oh—That Cancel Culture

SUNY student suspended for Instagram post saying, "A Man Is A Man, A Woman Is A Woman" (reclaimthenet.org)

I have TG friends. My wife has a TG cousin (now deceased). Just like everyone else, they have their issues. Some are a little more depressed than average, I think. On the other hand, some are a little more happy than average. Not for me to say where it balances out.

So, you may disagree with Stevens’ statement. You may even find it offensive. But what he says on social media, unless he’s actively threatening violence or a crime, should not be grounds for dismissal from school.

An education student at a university in New York was suspended after his Instagram posts were brought to the attention of the school’s administration. The school says education students have to abide by the rules of their profession, which include “protecting the mental and emotional well-being of all students.”

In one of the posts, Owen Stevens, a student at the State University of New York-Geneseo (SUNY-Geneseo), said “A man is a man, a woman is a woman. A man is not a woman and a woman is not a man.”

Once again, as always, I am on the side of free speech.

This is wrong.

And by ‘Anything Leaning Right’, They Mean ‘Anything to the Right of Lenin’

Crisis PR Consultant: ‘Anything’ That Offends The Left ‘A Problem,’ My Clients Work Hard To Please Them | The Daily Wire

A crisis public relations consultant told an entertainment publication that in Hollywood “anything” that offends the political Left is a problem and that his clients go out of their way to post things on social media that will appease the online left-wing outrage mob.

The comments were featured in a story published by The Hollywood Reporter about Disney’s recent firing of conservative actress Gina Carano. The publication noted that publicists have advised their clients to “steer clear of politics, especially anything leaning right.”

The problem is, as is noted above, this is very one-sided. And yielding to this only makes it more and more one-sided. This is what leads to cancel culture. The only way to beat it is to actually fight it, not give in. If PR consultants just told their clients to give cancel culture the middle finger, and say “we’re not going to bow to your insane demands”, it wouldn’t take long to turn the tide.

But no one is willing to do that. So, it just gets worse, and worse, and worse.
