I Hope the Judge Laughs at Them

Journalist Andy Ngô is sued for sharing riot videos on Twitter (reclaimthenet.org)

Are these videos he took without the permission of the people in them? That can sometimes be problematic.

Or maybe these are someone else’s videos that he stole and posted?

Umm…neither. Although the second is closer.

Two photographers from Portland Oregon have filed a federal copyright infringement lawsuit against journalist and author Andy Ngô. The photographers claim that Ngô shared their videos of protests in Portland on his Twitter account.

He shared their videos. Maybe he did steal them.

The suit claims that Ngô “has made a practice of illegally copying and uploading plaintiffs’ videos onto his own Twitter account.”

Well, that certainly sounds like it. I think I’m ready to agree with the plaintiffs. Ngo shouldn’t have done this.

But, there’s more.

“The plaintiffs shared their videos publicly on Twitter, a platform designed for exactly their purpose, and Mr. Ngô commented on this publicly posted content using Twitter platform tools, not somehow surreptitiously downloading and uploading the clips as the plaintiffs falsely claim,” Dhillon said in a statement.

So, they created the videos, uploaded them, and shared them on Twitter. Then Ngo re-Tweeted their videos.

Ummm…that’s kind of what Twitter is for.

The complaint appears to be somewhat contradictory, in that it expresses that using a standard Twitter feature to share videos in a way that credits the original tweeter is causing them harassment but also that sharing their videos themselves is copyright infringement.

Yeah, I no longer have any sympathy for the video uploaders.

Sad.

I do feel bad for the guy in this video. He’s just trying to enforce the rules he’s been given. This is a very uncomfortable situation for him. If I were him, I’d be scared.

Welcome to Portland

There was a Riot In Portland Following the Rittenhouse Verdict – PJ Media

Once again I will lament what has happened to Portland over the last couple of decades. This is a shining example of why Democrat “leadership” is something to avoid at all costs.

Except in Portland. There, the professional radical agitators didn’t really need much of an excuse. It was the weekend, so any radicals who actually had a day job were free to throw a few Molotov cocktails and toss some rocks through windows to “protest”… what?

Well, there’s “white supremacy,” because Kyle Rittenhouse killed two white allies of the anti-police movement—36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum of Kenosha and 26-year-old Anthony Huber of Silver Lake, Wisconsin—and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz, 27, a protester from West Allis. But that’s not quite the same thing as if Rittenhouse had shot a black protester or two, screaming “Zieg Heil” when they fell.

But they just know that’s what he was thinking.

Fox 12 of Portland, a news outlet that has become one of the most experienced at covering riots in the entire world, reports that police in Portland declared a riot after a protest against the Rittenhouse verdict became “violent and destructive” near the Multnomah County Justice Center.

Fox News:

Rioters were throwing objects at officers, smashing windows and damaging the justice center’s front gate, FOX 12 of Oregon reported.

“Due to violent, destructive behavior by a significant part of the crowd, the gathering in downtown Portland is a RIOT. All participants are instructed to proceed away to the WEST,” the Portland Police Bureau wrote on Twitter.

Riot about something that didn’t affect you that happened 2,000 miles away.

So, Defund the Police Didn’t Work Out for You, Then?

Portland mayor calls for big police budget increase | One America News Network (oann.com)

After the way you have treated the police for the last year and a half, do you think they’ll come back to you?

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) has pledged to increase the police budget one year after defunding the police.

During a community town hall meeting on Wednesday, Wheeler said he’s targeting around $7 million dollars in new public safety spending. This comes as Portland experienced its most violent year on record, with a historic 72 homicides this year.

“Many Portlanders no longer feel safe in their city,” said Wheeler during a news conference. “Business owners have closed up shop, for fear of doing business in high-risk areas. Commuters fear for their safety, whether taking public transport or going by foot. Parents are scared to let their children play outside.”

Many Portlanders no longer feel safe in their city? Whose fault is that??? Who encouraged the riots there? Who told the police to stand down? Who kicked out the National Guard?

I applaud the call for increased funding, but step one is for you to resign in favor of someone who won’t allow criminals to destroy the city.

Portland Used to Be Such a Beautiful City

I can’t imagine why anyone would want to live there now.

‘Anarchist’ Rioters Tear Through Portland And Cause $500K In Damage, Cops Say New Law Restricting Response Leaves Them Powerless | The Daily Wire

This is what happens when you have ultra-liberal control over an area for decades.

Portland police ultimately handled the riot, but law enforcement told local media that their options were limited by a state law that limits how police can respond to disorderly conduct.

“Lt. Jake Jensen with the Portland Police Bureau joined the Pearl District Neighborhood Association meeting Thursday night on the heels of widespread vandalism in the area,” Portland’s KOIN reported last week. “Jensen said House Bill 2928 is the reason officers aren’t directly intervening as vandals damage downtown Portland property.”

“The reason that we did not intervene goes back to what we talked about last month with HB 2928 and the restrictions placed on us in a crowd control environment,” Jenson told the meeting. “That’s the way our legislature has said we need to operate in a crowd control environment. So that’s the way we are going to operate in a crowd control environment.”

Great job, lefties. You’ve created an environment for riots, encouraged the rioters, and now made it so the police can’t do anything about it.

How can you possibly think that this is good?

Wow, Who Could Have Seen This Coming?

Althouse: "But some Portlanders came to see the demonstrations as a threat to the city’s appeal to tourists and investors."

'Lenders and purchasers have for all intents and purposes blacklisted Portland,' said John Russell, a longtime Portland real estate developer. Dramatic clashes between protesters and law enforcement provided the opportunity for right-wing politicians and media to depict the city as besieged by violent anarchists and, as Donald Trump claimed, 'ablaze all the time.'... Far-right groups had turned the city into a culture war battleground....

Excuse me, “far-right groups had turned the city into a culture war battleground”? Far-right groups?

Sometimes I wish I could live in the liberal universe. Things are so different there. Sorry, but it wasn’t the far-right groups burning the city down. And that’s the reason for your financial woes. Blaming it on the right is blind ignorance. Open your eyes and you might be able to solve the problem.

And They Say the Government Doesn’t Want to Control Everything in Your Lives

Oregon health officials say you can kiss on dates -- if both vaccinated | Fox News

Well, that’s nice of them. I was afraid only virtual dating would be permitted.

The government will keep claiming more power until it is forced to stop.

Here are their recommendation.

Dating during COVID-19, OHA graphic with an illustration of a young couple. Get vaccinated. Zoom dates not cutting it? Consider outdoor activities. Meeting in person? If your date has potential COVID-19 symptoms, postpone for 10 days. In a crowd outdoors or inside a public space? Please wear a mask and physically distance. If you're both vaccinated and taking COVID-19 precautions, intimacy is likely to be safe.

Huh, Who Could Have Seen That Coming?

Oh, that’s right, everyone with a brain. Which leaves out Democrats.

‘Broken’: Portland Residents Facing ‘Dramatic Increase’ In Wait Times For 911 Calls Following Efforts To Defund Police | The Daily Wire

The 911 emergency call system in Portland, Oregon, is “broken,” officials say, and callers who need help are often waiting more than two minutes for assistance, even though emergency calls are supposed to be answered in around 15 seconds.

“People calling 911 to report a Sept. 4 shootout at a Pearl District restaurant and other emergencies in the following half-hour waited an average of more than 7.5 minutes before a dispatcher answered,” the Oregonian reported. “The lengthy hold time is far above the national standard of 15 to 20 seconds for 911 calls and the latest example of serious problems plaguing the city’s emergency dispatch system.”

When you make moves that increase crime at the same time you’re cutting police budgets, you get..well, longer wait times for 911 calls aren’t the worst thing you get.

Can we just #DefundTheDemocrats instead? Would be a whole lot safer for us all.
