Doesn’t This Mean It’s Not a Mandate?

New York Won’t Force Counties to Comply With Mask Mandate – PJ Media

I wonder if this is just bowing to reality. As I pointed out previously, several counties have already indicated they weren’t going to enforce it.

A Win for Team Biden on the Mandates

Not their mandate, but it still shows SCOTUS is willing to consider the idea.

BREAKING: Supreme Court Denies Bid To Prevent Enforcement Of New York Vaccine Mandate For Health Care Workers | The Daily Wire

On Monday, the United States Supreme Court rejected two emergency bids seeking to prevent enforcement of the state of New York’s vaccine mandate for healthcare workers in the Empire State.

CNBC was one of the first outlets to report on the breaking news:

The legal challenge was filed by a group of 20 doctors and nurses who argued that the state’s vaccine mandate violates the First Amendment to the Constitution because it fails to include a religious exemption.

The request for an injunction had been presented to Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who is assigned to handle cases from New York.

Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch and Samuel Alito — three of the court’s six-member conservative majority — said in the order that they would have granted the bid to block the mandate.

There’s a tug of war here. Anti-mandaters are winning, but they’re not running away with it.

Vive La Resistance! (Encore)

New York Mask Mandate Meets Resistance, Won’t Be Enforced in Several Counties – PJ Media

“A violation of any provision of this measure is subject to a maximum fine of $1,000 for each violation,” Hochul said in a statement. She also added that “local health departments are being asked to enforce these requirements.”

But local governments were essentially blindsided by the announcement, and several counties with Republican executives are refusing to enforce the mandate, citing a variety of reasons, including a lack of guidance from the state on enforcement.

Republican Rockland County Executive Ed Day said that the mandate will not be enforced in his county. “My decision would be to move the people from the health department who are vaccinating children and others right now with a life-saving vaccine, move them to go walk around to different places to figure out whether people are masking up or not. That would be utterly reckless on my part and I will not do that,” Day said.

Madison, Niagara, Rensselaer and Nassau counties are joining Rockland in not enforcing the mandate.

We need more of this.

And Just in Case You Think I’ve Forgotten Andrew Cuomo, I Haven’t

Oh No! Who Can Save Us From Omicron?

We’re all gonna die!

N.Y. Gov Declares State of Emergency Over New China Flu Variant, Even Though No Cases Yet in New York – PJ Media

The first line of Hochul’s press release regarding her state-of-emergency declaration reads, “Governor Kathy Hochul today announced urgent action to boost hospital capacity and address staffing shortages ahead of potential spikes in COVID-19 cases this upcoming winter.”

Maybe firing all those heroes filthy, unvaccinated healthcare workers two months ago wasn’t such a good idea. In fact, it was downright idiotic. It makes me wonder if she got her COVID acumen from reading Cuomo’s “COVID leadership” book. Or perhaps she just wants to beat Cuomo’s serial-killer toll of 15,000 dead New Yorkers.

Thank you, Governor Hochul for having the foresight to save us from…a low grade fever.

Agggggghhhh! The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Save us! Save us all!

Or maybe not.

Really, These People Have Gone Completely Around the Bend

Families could be denied death benefits for unvaccinated loved ones: Report | Just The News

Families of unvaccinated workers may not receive death benefits if the person dies of COVID-19, says Kaiser Health News.

In an article on its website, KHN said the New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority is denying $500,000 death benefits to the families of the unvaccinated subway, bus and commuter workers.

"It strikes me as needlessly cruel," lawyer Mark DeBofsky, who represents workers in benefit disputes, told CNN.

Other employers are are considering the federal vaccine mandate as justification for denying potential death benefits, or insurance claims based on someone's vaccination status.

What has happened to our world in the last two years? I’m beginning to think that one of the unknown side effects of the China virus is insanity, because no sane society would put up with these kinds of ideas. And yet they’re becoming more and more mainstream.

First Responder “Shortage” in NYC

NYC braces for first responder shortage due to vaccine mandate | One America News Network (oann.com)

I don’t know if “shortage” is exactly the right word, when you’re doing everything possible to make them leave. This is a self-inflicted wound if there ever was one.

And normally, you’d call your first responders for a self-inflicted wound, but, there you go.

I rarely post items where I’m in agreement with presidents of unions, but this guy nails it.

“When they came out with a vaccine for polio, did they chase people down that had already had polio and make them take it?”

LOL.

Not Pointing This Out Because of the Hypocrisy

No. All politicians are hypocrites. I just want a record of this the next time some Democrat screams about the evils of Republican gerrymandering.

New York Democrats Push Partisan Redistricting Amendment (city-journal.org)

In March 2012, New York governor Andrew Cuomo expressed support for a state constitutional amendment that would, he said, “permanently reform the redistricting process in New York to once and for all end self-interested and partisan gerrymandering.” Sponsored in the state assembly by top Democrats and Republicans and endorsed by influential nonprofits and “good government” advocates, the amendment—called Proposal 1—passed overwhelmingly in the state legislature, was affirmed with over 57 percent of the popular vote on the 2014 ballot, and became part of the state constitution. But just seven years after its approval, and before it was ever implemented, the amendment may be removed and replaced.

What accounts for such a turnaround? The answer is simple. Albany Democrats have something that they didn’t have during the last redistricting cycle: absolute one-party control of New York’s state government.

Huh. Imagine that.

I Thought Gerrymandering for Political Advantage Was Wrong?

I guess that’s just when the other side does it.

Dems look to cut half of NY's GOP House with gerrymandering (nypost.com)

New York State Republican Committee Chairman Nick Langworthy immediately vowed to challenge the redistricting plan, saying that Democrats “are going to stonewall and drag this process out hoping New Yorkers aren’t paying attention so partisan legislators can draw their own maps.”

“Like everything else under Democrat control in New York, this process is a political sham built on a foundation of lies and hypocrisy,” he said in a prepared statement.

Meh. It is what it is. Gerrymandering has been with us forever. Until you start laying out districts in little squares based totally on population counts, this is going to happen. And the party that it’s done to isn’t going to like it.

Life’s tough all over.
