As treatments get better and better, the need for vaccine mandates gets less and less. And yet, we’re hearing about them more and more. Why is that?

Pharmaceutical company Merck announced Monday that they and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics were requesting emergency authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for molnupiravir, its experimental antiviral COVID-19 pill.

“Merck has submitted an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for molnupiravir, an investigational oral antiviral medicine, for the treatment of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults who are at risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 and/or hospitalization,” Merck announced in a press release. “The companies are actively working with regulatory agencies worldwide to submit applications for emergency use or marketing authorization in the coming months.”

The request was based on “positive results from a planned interim analysis” which “evaluated molnupiravir in non-hospitalized adult patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 who were at risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 and/or hospitalization.” According to the interim analysis, “molnupiravir reduced the risk of hospitalization or death by approximately 50%.”

Of course, the treatments have had about as much testing as the vaccines, so there’s no guarantee of avoiding harmful side effects here, also. The point is that we have options. We have far more options than we did a year ago. We should take advantage of them.

Clooney went on to baselessly claim that Trump doesn’t like his own supporters, saying that they are people that he “can’t stand in real life.”

Clooney went on to try and downplay President Joe Biden’s declining poll numbers.

“It’s like taking a battered child and thinking everything’s going to be OK his first day in school,” Clooney said. “There’s a lot of things that have to be repaired, there’s a lot of healing that has to happen, and it’s going to take time.”

He’s right there. It is going to take time. And a new President.

Be Careful. Republicans Are ”Seizing” Again.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In the frantic bid to avert a default on the nation’s debt, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell held a position of unusual power — as the one who orchestrated both the problem and the solution.

McConnell is no longer the majority leader, but he is exerting his minority status in convoluted and uncharted ways, all in an effort to stop President Joe Biden’s domestic agenda and even if doing so pushes the country toward grave economic uncertainty.

All said, the outcome of this debt crisis leaves zero confidence there won’t be a next one. In fact, McConnell engineered an end to the standoff that ensures Congress will be in the same spot in December when funding to pay America’s bills next runs out. That means another potentially devastating debt showdown, all as the COVID-19 crisis lingers and the economy struggles to recover.

Notice how the AP does this. The Democrats control the White House, and both Chambers of Congress. They can’t get the debt ceiling raised, and it’s not the fault of any Democrats, but instead the fault of one man, a Republican, Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY). This is nonsense.

Whenever you read or hear about Republicans “seizing” or “pouncing”, you know that the Democrats have screwed up, and the media is trying to distract you from it by talking about what the Republicans are doing.

Eric Clapton?? There are few celebrities to the left of Clapton. He’s been a liberal hero for longer than I’ve been alive.

Heh. The lead sentence of the article echoes me.

Eric Clapton has been a rock legend for longer than I have been alive. He’s an icon in the music industry who has earned respect and admiration from millions over his career. But he’s been making headlines this year for other reasons.

Since having a severe negative reaction to the AstraZeneca vaccine earlier this year, he’s become an outspoken opponent of the COVID vaccines. He has promised not to perform in venues with vaccine mandates, collaborated with Van Morrison on some anti-vaccine/anti-lockdowns songs, and even bankrolled an anti-vaccine rock group.

And his recent outspokenness as a vaccine skeptic has many of the cultural gatekeepers looking to have him canceled. Rolling Stone magazine has even run a lengthy hit piece on Clapton that blasts his vaccine skepticism.

Uh oh. He spoke out against the vaccines. That’s a big no-no. Huge.

So, the knives come out.

“It’s a shame that this is the way that a lot of young Rolling Stone readers are going to read about him for the first time,” says Bill Oakes, who ran Clapton’s label in the 1970s. “He is one of the greats, and this is how he makes the headlines in his dotage.”

It must be tough for young Rolling Stone readers to learn about a rock legend who isn’t afraid to speak his mind against the rowdy mob of COVID zealots.

I’m so old I remember when rock was all about being outspoken, speaking out against the tyranny of government control.

What happened?

“Love thy neighbor” is not a liberal creed.

Mr. West has chosen to take hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin, which don’t help everyone. However, few people are dropping dead after taking these drugs, though the left would have us believe otherwise. West is in the hospital and getting prayers and good wishes from many people — just not many on the left.

It’s been called “COVID Death Porn,” and the left is getting very good at it. Spectator USA writer Cockburn, who coined the term “COVID Death Porn,” explains its meaning and why it’s ludicrously stupid.

Cockburn will concede that when a public figure stakes their life on a certain medical opinion and dies a preventable death as a result, the irony is enough to merit a news story. But he would be remiss if he didn’t observe that standards for this sort of thing seem a tad inconsistent. Losing weight is another entirely controllable way to reduce COVID risk, too, but the same publications that gloat over dead vaccine skeptics have published a Pravda’s worth of takes explaining that COVID-related fat shaming is not funny and not OK.

Neither is consistency.

I feel bad when anyone catches the China virus. Less bad now, because we’re clearly learning how to treat it better. The fatality rate continues to fall. But I don’t make exceptions based upon their political views.

Does that make me better than them? Am I putting on my “holier-than-thou” hat? Perhaps. I don’t mean to be. I’m just saying that if your hatred of someone is such that you have glee when they are ill, then you are mentally unwell.

I’m Really Getting Tired of This

Although [Michael] Robison didn’t hesitate to get the COVID-19 vaccine when it first came out, he regrets that decision as he is fighting multiple health issues. And while Robison wanted to do nothing more than inform people to “Think, Study, and Be Aware,” Twitter viewed his personal experience as misinformation and therefore censored him for telling the truth.

Once a healthy man, Robison expressed his anger surrounding the vaccine when he was diagnosed with cancer. Taking to Twitter, Robison unloaded a thread of tweets aimed at the dangers of the COVID-19 vaccine.

People should be allowed to voice their opinions and to describe their personal experiences. I don’t want to be part of a world where that is forbidden.

Moderna Vaccine Gets Put On Ice In Yet Another Country (lifezette.com)

Iceland has suspended the use of the Moderna vaccine due to the risks of heart inflammation. Several other countries this week have also suspended the use of the vaccine for the same reasons.

Iceland stated that there are concerns of increased cardiac inflammation, including myocarditis and pericarditis, after receiving the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine.

I wonder if you’re allowed to talk about this on Facebook and Twitter. Probably not.

Ah. Paul Mitchell finds a way around it. He doesn’t mention myocarditis. That word is verboten.

Why did Iceland just stop using the Moderna vaccine?

I’m pro-vaccine. I will remain pro-vaccine until there is hard evidence that the vaccines are unhelpful or pose a greater threat than the disease.

However, I totally understand why some people have concerns and I will not try to argue them out of their beliefs. If governments are going to force this vaccine on people, they need to prove to them that taking it is in their best interest.

So far they have not done a good job of that. Maybe because it isn’t. Certainly there are plenty who feel that’s the answer. I don’t know that I do, but as I said, I’m not going to argue with someone who does.

One: Britain goes big on wind turbines in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from traditional power sources.

Two: The wind don't blow and the power don’t flow.

Three: A subsequent massive increase in demand for natural gas as a power source drives wholesale gas prices through the roof.

Four: CF Fertilisers, a US-owned British fertiliser business that also produces carbon dioxide for commercial use, suspends production because high gas prices have made the business unprofitable.

Five: Carbon dioxide is a required component for meat packaging. Without reliable supplies of commercial carbon dioxide, Britain faces a food shortage.

Six: The British government, which spent millions of pounds to cut carbon dioxide emissions, will now give millions of pounds to CF Fertilisers so it can produce carbon dioxide.

Perfect.

Someone didn’t think this through.
