What Vile, Revolting People

Democrats Reveal Their Ultimate Goal in Impeachment (pjmedia.com)

“There is no ‘January exception’ to the Constitution that allows a President to organize a coup or incite an armed insurrection in his final weeks in office,” the Democrats argued. “The Senate must convict President Trump, who has already been impeached by the House of Representatives, and disqualify him from ever holding federal office again.”

I could write a book on all the things wrong with just that one paragraph, but I will attempt to be brief.

I’ll give credit to the one correct bit of it. We shouldn’t have a “January exception”. Which also means that we shouldn’t fabricate charges out of thin air merely because it’s January and the calendar prevents a purposeful investigation and trial.

However, President Donald Trump (R-USA) did not “organize a coup or incite and armed insurrection”. There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever to back up that statement.

It is not incitement to question election results. If it were, then every Democrat on capitol hill has been guilty of it at several points in the last 20 years.

It is not incitement to continue to protest that the election has not been decided fairly for as long as you want. If it were, then we’d have to throw Hillary Clinton and Stacey Abrams in jail and throw away the key.

It is not incitement to encourage your supporters to protest. If it were, we’d have to throw every single Democrat in the House and Senate in jail for their statements and actions all last summer during the riots that occurred all over the country. Kamala Harris helped bail these people out of jail. Various other Democrats were emphatic in their support, including, once again, Vice President Kamala Harris (D-USA).

The Democrats want to have one rule for them and one rule for Trump. Not a “January exception”, but a “liberal exception”. Sorry, it doesn’t work that way.

Finally, the last sentence presupposes a power that the Senate does not have. The Senate has no Constitutional authority whatsoever to prevent Trump from running for President again. I’m not even sure they have the authority to prevent him from running for Congressional office again. There’s certainly nothing in the Constitution that directly gives them that power.

But they certainly don’t have that power over another branch of the government.

The Senate could convict him on a unanimous vote and Trump would still be able to run in 2024, and win.
