And Then the Ferryman Said, ”There Is Trouble Ahead”

4 Million Workers Quit Their Jobs in August – PJ Media

According to the Labor Department, 4.3 million workers quit their jobs in August. That represents almost 3 percent of the entire U.S. labor force and is the largest number of workers quitting their jobs in one month in history.

Nearly 900,000 of those workers were employed in the restaurant industry. Another 720,000 were employed in retail, 700,000 in business services, and 534,000 in health care.

While the data do not reveal the reasons why so many workers quit their jobs in August, it’s assumed by economists that workers are less willing to endure inconvenient hours, low compensation, or bad conditions because they know there are ample opportunities elsewhere.

Working conditions. Being forced to wear masks. Being forced to be vaccinated. Fear of being exposed to the virus because the government and the media have made us all terrified of going outdoors.

When You’re a Democrat President and You’ve Lost The Atlantic

Supply Chain Disruption Update for October 11, 2021 « Lawrence Person's BattleSwarm Blog

Supply chain problems have gotten so bad that Derek Thompson at The Atlantic deigns to notice them:

The coronavirus pandemic has snarled global supply chains in several ways. Pandemic checks sent hundreds of billions of dollars to cabin-fevered Americans during a fallow period in the service sector.

Not good. But wait. It gets worse.

  • Expecting these problems to be transitory? Dubai’s largest port operator says to expect supply chain problems to extend in 2023.
  • Adding to shipping woes: Marine fuel is at a seven year high.
  • India institutes rolling blackouts over a coal shortage.
  • Brazil is also having to import more natural gas.
  • Energy problems are only expected to get worse:
  • There’s also panic buying to secure winter supplies, especially in China, where “the central government there has given state-owned energy companies a directive to secure winter energy supplies at any and all costs.”
  • Steel and roofing supplies are also facing shortages.
  • Also in short supply: HVAC parts:
  • Even oats, the lowly horse and breakfast food, is hitting all-time highs.
  • Retailers say they’re getting ready for a lot of bare shelves.
  • That’s one reason big retailers like Walmart are chartering their own vessels. (Hat tip: Director Blue.)
  • There’s even a backup for ships to unload at the Port of Houston:
  • Why does UK have a truck driver shortage? Evidently they get treated like garbage compared to European driver
  • Much more at the link.

Treatments Keep Getting Better, so Tell Me Again Why We Need Vaccine Mandates?

AstraZeneca logs upbeat trial results from COVID drug (medicalxpress.com)

British pharmaceuticals giant AstraZeneca on Monday revealed more positive results from a trial of a treatment for COVID-19 symptoms.

The drug, made from a combination of two antibodies, achieved a "statistically significant reduction in severe COVID-19 or death" in non-hospitalised patients with mild-to-moderate symptoms, AstraZeneca said in a statement.

The group's treatment, known as AZD7442, has been undergoing phase 3 or final clinical trials to assess its safety and efficacy.

"With continued cases of serious COVID-19 infections across the globe, there is a significant need for new therapies like AZD7442 that can be used to protect vulnerable populations ... and can also help prevent progression to severe disease," said principal trial investigator Hugh Montgomery.

Look, the vaccines are good. But they aren’t as effective as we expected. That’s clear. It’s also clear that we’re not going to eradicate this disease. So, we need to be able to treat it effectively. If we can get the disease to be not significantly worse than the flu, wouldn’t that be a good thing?

Wouldn’t not needing vaccine mandates be a good thing? We don’t require people to get flu shots. We strongly encourage, but we don’t mandate.

Black Thursday. The stock market crash of 1929. The beginning of the Great Depression.

And the Hits Just Keep On Coming

Brace yourself for a mass exodus of employees (restaurantbusinessonline.com)

Restaurants struggling to hold onto their employees are about to hit by a major setback, according to new research.

A survey of 13,659 wage earners by the online job marketplace Joblist revealed that 58% of restaurant and hotel employees intend to quit their jobs by the end of the year, stoking what the researchers have dubbed The Great Resignation.

If the pattern set by earlier quitters persists, a fourth of the workers will leave the hospitality industry for good.

The employees who intend to bail are in addition to the 16% of industry respondents who indicated they’re already no longer working.

Well, we should all eat at home more anyway, I guess. Safer, and healthier. And cheaper.

This Is 100% True and Ought to Scare Everyone

The Purpose Of The Jan. 6 Select Committee Is To Suppress Free Speech (thefederalist.com)

The final three paragraphs are quite blunt and worth quoting in their entirety.

If our news media had any interest in holding power to account, the headlines and coverage would have focused instead on how Democratic lawmakers on the committee, together with NeverTrump GOP Reps. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., and Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., are using their subpoena powers to target law-abiding Americans who wished to exercise their right to peacefully assemble and protest.

Let’s be clear on this point. Since its inception, the Select Committee has amounted to a show-trial for House Democrats and leading NeverTrumpers who are attempting to make examples out of ordinary citizens who dared to protest the election, just as President Biden’s Justice Department is throwing the book at anyone connected to the events of Jan. 6 to make examples of them.

The message is clear: if you protest, if you exercise your First Amendment rights for a cause that those in power have not approved, you will be targeted by the government, smeared and harassed by the media, and made into a spectacle — pour encourager les autres.

This is a direct assault on the First Amendment by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA-11) and her cohorts in the House.

Probably the World’s Leading Expert on the Tech Behind the Pfizer and Moderna Vaccines

So, maybe you should listen to him.

Malone: Physicians Are Being 'Hunted' For Criticizing Vaccines (technocracy.news)

    Who is Malone?

    He’s this guy (emphasis mine):

Dr Robert Malone, the inventor of mRNA vaccines, says he was branded a “terrorist” by the media in Italy and warns that physicians who speak out are being “hunted via medical boards and the press.”

mRNA is the tech behind the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and behind what progress we’ve made on an HIV vaccine. That’s what mRNA was originally designed for, by the way. it is a very clever way of transmitting a vaccine, with far fewer likely side effects than traditional vaccines.

But that doesn’t mean they’re perfect. And this guy ought to know.

    He has more.

We are killing people by not giving them access to this information. And the people deciding that it’s “misinformation” know a Hell of a lot less than Dr. Malone.

    1003!

This is my 1003rd post this year. It’s a huge milestone for me.

Why 1003? Why not 999, or 1000, or even 1001?

Because, in my entire blogging career prior to this year, I had created 1002 blog posts. I have now created more blog posts this year than my total since the creation of this blog in 2008.

    Go me. Smile

    Thanks for reading.

He Says It Because It’s True

Sen. Ron Johnson Says Lives Are Being Lost Due to Big Tech Censorship of Conservatives (theepochtimes.com)

As an example of such censorship, Johnson said an impassioned opening statement of testimony by Dr. Pierre Kory on the treatment potential of ivermectin received 8 million views before it was censored by YouTube.

“Now we are dealing with censorship regarding the benefits of natural immunity because for whatever reason the powers that be, the COVID gods, want the vaccine in every arm,” Johnson said.

“So they are censoring the deaths [following vaccination] being reported on VAERS, over 16,000, at least 5,200 of those are within day one or two, and 750,000 adverse events, and nobody can talk about it,” he said. “This is affecting our healthcare system, it’s affecting doctors ability to save lives, we don’t know how many thousands of people lost their lives because of this censorship.”

Social media doesn’t have the right to just decide which side is right and which side is wrong, and then shut down those that they’ve decided are wrong. That’s not how scientific debate works. That’s not how freedom of speech works. That’s how tyranny works.

    Welcome to Biden’s America.

People Need to Go to Prison for This, and I’m Not Talking About Just the Rapist

And they need to be locked away for a long time.

Loudoun County schools covered up rape, prosecuted a concerned father to protect transgender agenda | Washington Examiner

The article in the Daily Wire is better, but subscriber only.

Loudoun County Schools Tried To Conceal Sexual Assault Against Daughter In Bathroom, Father Says | The Daily Wire

The Washington Examiner has a good summary.

The story highlights the arrest of a Virginia father who tried to protest pro-transgender policies the Loudoun County School Board was trying to implement at a June 22 meeting. Scott Smith was trying to tell the board that this ninth-grade daughter had been raped in the girl’s restroom by a boy wearing a skirt. Another woman at the meeting, a leftist community activist, told Smith she didn’t believe his daughter. He fired back, a police officer stepped in and grabbed Smith’s arm, Smith yanked it away, and then he was arrested.

The parent of the raped daughter was arrested. The school board who made it all possible and who were defending the rapist, were not.

The world is turned upside down.

Many parents (including myself) have warned that allowing boys to use girls bathrooms under the guise of tolerance of transgenderism is inherently dangerous. And we did not want our girls put into a situation like that. We feared what might happen.

We were mocked, ridiculed and (at best) ignored.

I understand gender dysphoria. I understand not wanting to be bound by society’s ideas on what defines you as a member of a particular gender. But the answer can’t be that boys can go in with the girls. We probably need to go to private single occupancy restrooms in all public places.

Anyway, here’s what happened in Virginia.

The Daily Wire’s Luke Rosiak writes:

Two girls, allegedly sexually assaulted in school, four months apart, by the same person. And so far, the only person to be convicted of a crime is the victim’s father.
A school policy passed following what appear to be false statements from the superintendent — a policy whose passage would have been politically impossible had Smith’s story seen the light of day.

This is truly outrageous. Loudoun County failed Smith, his daughter, and every single other parent who sends their children to its schools. School officials covered up what happened to Smith’s daughter so they could force through an unpopular and dangerous policy in the name of inclusion. When Smith tried to protest, they arrested him.

And as Rosiak notes, the local leftist prosecutor, known generally for being soft on criminals, nonetheless went out of her way to throw the book at Smith for daring to speak out about the transgender rapist who victimized his daughter.

How could Loudoun County parents possibly justify sending their children back to such schools as the ones these people run?

The boy was a known rapist. He had attempted this before at another school. How could Louden County have allowed this to occur.

Smith didn’t do anything wrong. If it had been my daughter, me screaming at a school board meeting would be the least of their worries.

They say “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”. I’d put “father whose daughter has just been raped” above that. We as a group tend to be rather over-protective of our daughters. The school board got lucky.
