Facebook leaks full names, phone numbers, email addresses, and other info on half a BILLION users (reclaimthenet.org)
The personal data, including phone numbers and emails, of more than 500 million Facebook users has been leaked online. The social media company claims that the data was obtained through a vulnerability that has since been fixed.
They didn’t fix the barn door after the horse escaped. They fixed the barn door after the horse was stolen. Great job, guys.
500 million people could probably sue the company out of existence. There are serious laws about protecting Personally Identifiable Information (PII) these days, and violations carry a heavy cost. Hackers can use PII for identity theft, or merely for those scary phone calls about how you owe the IRS several thousand dollars and you must pay right now.
