Brain Implant Translates Paralyzed Man's Thoughts Into Text With 94% Accuracy (sciencealert.com)
I have a friend who never wanted a cell phone. I assume he has one now. I’ve not spoken to him for a few years. But he kept saying that he was waiting for the chip to be implanted in his brain.
Well, here you go.
But it’s not just that I think of when I read this. I’m also reminded of the novel Oath of Fealty by Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle. (The cover picture is really horrible. There are no spaceships in this novel)
In it, two of the main characters, Art Bonner and Barbara Churchward have mental implants that allow them to communicate directly with the AI for the local computer network, and thus can communicate directly to each other. It’s a major plot point in the story.
Also, if I can communicate directly with a computer, I can then have it log all my thoughts (this is both good and bad), but this would enable me to live beyond the end of my human body.
True science fiction stuff here, but much of science started out that way.
Anyway, read the whole thing.
